Cherry, Bird (Prunus padus)

A fast growing native deciduous cherry, the Bird Cherry is a small/medium tree which carries racemes (strands) small, almond scented white flowers in early summer (May/June) and edible (but pretty bitter) fruit later in summer. As with most cherries, the foliage turns beautifully in autumn. Bird Cherries grow almost anywhere except on wet soils. As with all cherries any pruning or remedial work should be done in summer to reduce the risk of bacterial canker. To 10m
