Cherry (Prunus Spire)
Spire Cherry
Spire Cherry is a slender, upright tree, columnar when young but fanning out slightly as it ages. It has small, soft pink single flowers in April with red eyes. The pinkish bronze leaves are unfurling at the same time, so the effect is pink at a distance and, close up, full of charming detail.
This would make a good specimen for a smallish garden, bearing in mind it can reach up to 9m (29ft) high, but should not exceed 3m (10ft) in width. There is red and brown autumnal colour too.
