Dogwood, Common (Cornus sanguinea)
The Common Dogwood (Cornus sanguinea) is a large deciduous shrub with red/green stems, white flowers and black fruit. The Common Dogwood makes a great hedge plant, and will grow in almost any soil but loves wet ground.
The name Dogwood comes from the Saxon Dagwood or "skewer-wood". The stems are very straight, can be sharpened easily and are ideal for home made BBQ's.
