Pear, Common (Pyrus communis)
The Common Pear (Pyrus communis) is a small tree that also makes an outstanding (albeit underused) hedgerow plant. It flowers in April before producing small sweet fruit, which you will be lucky to get to before the birds and squirrels do. The foliage turns orange and gold in autumn and, in a hedge, holds for some time. Pears don't mind pollution and grow well in cold areas and frost pockets. To 10m
