Growing Gold Brian Escallonia

It needs plenty of sun and a well-drained site is essential. It will grow on most soils and thrives on clay in dry, raised areas that shed water.

It is great for the coast, but you should improve the soil if your site is very sandy.

Escallonia laevis is rated H3 hardiness, so it's not hardy enough for most of the North and Scotland.

Plant Escallonia hedging at 2 plants per metre, 50cm apart.
