| Climbers and Ramblers
|
| |
| These are the wallpapers and curtains of the gardening world. Ramblers and Climbers are vigorous but rather “floppy” roses that need training and some form of support -generally wire, tree or trellis but they look fantastic on pergolas and arches.
Ramblers have produce long, slender new growths (‘canes’) that carry clusters of small flowers that appear once early in summer. Later in summer they produce new ‘canes’ which will bear the next season’s flowers. The old canes lose strength and should be pruned out in winter.
Climbers carry much larger (but fewer) flowers and than Ramblers and may repeat flower through the year from June until September or October. Their blooms are not carried on long ‘canes’ but on side shoots that grow from a much older framework of long branches. Many climbers are variants (sports) of Hybrid Tea or Floribundas roses and share the same characteristics of leaf, scent and flower |
