Conservation Hedge Mix

Hedge Pack: Conservation Hedge

The Conservation Hedge mix is an outstanding general purpose selection of native hedging plants ideal for farm or garden and approved for grant-aided planting. You are of course more than welcome to make up your own hedging mix. However, in our experience, this works pretty well in a wide range of soils and aspects.

These plants, which are 60/80cms, knit into the classic country hedge and should provide a solid barrier within three years of planting. For stock proof planting Conservation Hedging must be planted at 5 plants per metre in a double row.  If you are not sure how to do this, we have made a film on How to Plant a Country Hedgewhich you may find helpful.   The mix is 50% hawthorn and 10% each of 5 species chosen by us from  a list that includes Blackthorn, Crab Apple, Dog Rose, Dogwood, Field Maple, Guelder Rose, Hazel, Ramanas, Spindle, Sweet Briar, Wayfaring Tree etc

We do not promise that all the plants in the Conservation Hedge pack are safe for animals to eat. None are especially poisonous, but if you have horses and they will be able to graze the hedge when it is established, we would recommend our Stock Friendly Hedging which is also sold in packs of 50.
