Pear, Concorde
Concorde pears are ideal for espalier, cordon, fan and other training. They are pliable, produce side shoots readily and give regular, heavy crops of russet/green medium sized fruit. They can be used as either juicy eaters or cookers. Concorde is best planted in moist, well-drained, fertile soil and in a sunny site. Although self-fertile they yield better with a pollinator nearby. For more information on pear pollination and for a list of good pollinators for Concorde do have a look at our
Guide to Fruit Tree PollinationPick and use in September.

The planting hole for fruit trees should be 1m across and 40cms deep. If necessary, the soil can be improved with a little well rotted compost or manure. Stake the tree with a 50mm (2") diameter tree stake, and secure it with a buckle and strap tree tie within 50-60 cms of the ground. Weeds and grass should be kept away from the trunk by weeding, spraying or using a mulch mat. For further information, take a look at our Tree Planting Guide.
