Crab Apple, Sargents (Malus sylvestris 'Tchonoskii')
Discovered in Japan in 1897 by Sargent, this is a strong growing very upright crab apple. White flowers, with just a blush of pink are followed by very round, medium sized fruits which are mainly yellow -green with purple highlights. For a show in autumn, Sargent's Crab has few equals as it puts on a magnificent display of gold, red, purple and orange foliage.
Like all crabs it prefers well drained soils. To 12m.
