The Wild Cherry (Prunus avium) is a fast growing, medium sized native deciduous tree, that bears white flowers in spring and edible (if rather bitter) fruits in summer. The dark green leaves (bronze coloured when young) turn an attractive red/yellow in the autumn. The red-brown wood of the cherry is used in cabinet making and for musical instruments and pipes. Wild cherry will grow almost anywhere except on wet soils. To 20m
