Apple - Bramley - Cooker
Bramley Seedling - Culinary Apple
Bramley Seedling is a vigourous tree and a heavy
cropper producing large cooking apples. It is the most popular
cooking apple in the UK, and with good reason - Bramley Seedling
apples are full of acidic flavour and they cook easily to a fluffy
puree. Storage qualities are very good, you can keep Bramleys
for 4-5 months.
However the tree is a mid-season flowering triploid,
which means it is neither fertile nor can it pollinate other apple
trees. Triploids need to be planted in the company of two pollinators
as a minimum for all three trees to fruit (hence the name triploid).
For more information on apple pollination and to find suitable
pollinators for a Bramley Seedling please take a look at our Guide
to Fruit Pollination. Use October - March

Dig a hole for your Bramley 1 metre across and 40 cms deep. Improve the soil if necessary with a little well rotted compost or manure. Stake the tree with a 50mm (2") diameter tree stake, and secure it with a buckle and strap tree tie within 50-60 cms of the ground. Weeds and grass should be kept away from the trunk by weeding, spraying or using a mulch mat. For further information, take a look at our Tree Planting Guide.
