Spartan Apple

Apple - Spartan - Eating

Spartan - Eating Apple

Spartan is a little apple (kids love them) - it is a dark shiny red eating apple with crisp white flesh. This is an apple best eaten straight off the tree as it softens with storage (although it is an excellent juicing apple fresh or stored).

Spartan apple trees are pretty disease resistant (good against scab and mildew), they are easy to grow and they are outstanding pollinators.  Spartan is partially self-fertile and flowers (and crops) late. For a list of suitable apple for cross pollination have a look at our Guide to Fruit Pollination. Use October-January

The planting hole for fruit trees should be 1m across and 40cms deep. If necessary, the soil can be improved with a little well rotted compost or manure. Stake the tree with a 50mm (2") diameter tree stake, and secure it with a buckle and strap tree tie within 50-60 cms of the ground. Weeds and grass should be kept away from the trunk by weeding, spraying or using a mulch mat. For further information, take a look at our Tree Planting Guide.
