Scarlet Dogwood (Cornus Alba Westonbirt) is a large deciduous shrub with green leaves that turn red and orange in the autumn, Red Stemmed Dogwood's primary feature is its brilliant red winter colour although it also produces white flowers in summer and fruit in the autumn.
The name Dogwood comes from the Saxon Dagwood or "skewer-wood". The stems are very straight, can be sharpened easily and are ideal for home made BBQ's.

Cut back very hard in late February or March so the plants produce coloured new growth for the following winter.
